Don Parties On

I saw Don Parties On at the Playhouse last week.

For the non-Australian audience, Don Parties On is the sequel to the original David Williamson play/film, Don’s Party.

Here is a clip from the 1976 film:

Kiiiiiiidddinnng. That’s footage of a surprise party for some guy named Don…his divorce party. Cool idea guys, totally modern and lame.

Here’s the real Don’s Party (try to ignore the annoying intro bit)

So, it was election day 1969.

Fast forward to election day 2010, Don’s having another party. David Williamson is writing a play about it.

I won’t provide a comprehensive review but to say I laughed a lot, the set was incredible, some of the acting was great and some of it was awful, and I mostly didn’t identify with any of the characters except in some general lefty political ways. Good night at the theatre. Two thumbs up.
