Being married is like having a color television set. You never want to go back to black and white.

I remember hearing Danny and Annie’s story a few years ago (and have subscribed to StoryCorps since then). Now, the clever people at StoryCorps have animated it. Real life is sweet.

You never want to go back to black and white.

If this was true, nobody would ever get divorced though.

C’mon David. I don’t think Danny was offering a universal truth. I think he was just sharing his feelings. I, for one, do not look on marriage quite so fondly – but I think Danny found a really lovely way to explain what marriage meant to him.

The wording makes it look like it’s being presented as a universal truth though. Another way of wording it could be:

“From my own personal first-person non-universal individual subjective perspective, being married is, to me anyway, like having a colour television set. I, personally, never want to go back to black and white (in my opinion).”

Much more succinct and clear (imo).
