Loy Krathong

Today is Loy Krathong (or Loi Krathong) in Thailand. During this time people send Krathong, which are little floats with a lantern and other offerings, into the water and say a prayer or make a wish. This act, I’ve also been told, is about letting go of grudges or negativity picked up over the year, and to honor and thank the Goddess of Water, Phra Mae Khongkha.

I’ve been told it will be very crowded around the water tonight and hard to see much so was directed to this website that lets you do Loy Krathong online!

I sent a lantern into the air in Chang Mai, which seems to be a regional variation that I don’t understand, but it was a pretty lantern.
